I’m absolutely in love with cities. The fast life, the lights, the bustling about: it’s pretty incredible. Naturally, I’m in love with New York City. Over my (very extensive) journey among TV shows I came up with my top five TV shows that take place in New York City.
- The Mindy Project
I’ve definitely mentioned the Mindy Project in one of my favorites posts already with good reason. This one isn’t really for the location as much as the dynamic characters that make up Mindy’s OB/GYN workplace. Mindy brings the struggle of balancing personal and professional aspects to life and it’s very entertaining.
- Gossip Girl
Gossip Girl is of course a fan favorite. Who doesn’t love the drama that ensues on the Upper East Side? The show is so glamorous and feels so unattainable that you can’t help but to be sucked into the twisting and backstabbing plot. The show does seem to drag on during some seasons but it overall brings sheer entertainment.
- Ugly Betty
I’m not going to lie, I probably watched this show a bit too soon but that didn’t stop me from falling in love with it. The location, not just within the city, but within Mode Magazine brought the story of Betty Suarez from Queens to life. I can only imagine working for such an amazing fashion establishment in the center of the Big Apple.
- Sex and the City
Being interested in writing, I was immediately drawn to this series about a sex columnist and her friends. The show is structured with voiceover lessons from Bradshaw as she writes her article each week. It’s a really cool format and actually pretty insightful. Perhaps there’s more to Sex and the City than most would think.
- The Carrie Diaries
It has all of the great narrative qualities of Sex and the City but catered to a younger audience, making it all the more relatable. Young Carrie Bradshaw’s position as a small town girl turned rising figure in the city only makes me want to move there 10x more. For the record, 1980s New York was the place to be!
